Coach JayHead Coach:  Jay Smith

“Consistency in practice attendance is crucial to getting better, please feel free to talk to me about your child’s progress”

Coach Jay is from Hopkinsville, Ky.  He is a graduate of WKU, with a degree in physical education.  He has been involved in competitive swimming for 20 years, swimming for the Pennyrile Athletic Club, Hopkinsville Country Club, Owensboro Mercy Marlins, and Western Kentucky University.   He still holds (at last count) 4 KY state records and at least an equal number of South Central records.  — He would like it known that none of those records were set in a Speedo LZR, nor the Jaked 01, or even the Arena X-Glide!

Coach Jay brings an in-depth knowledge of the sport, and tremendous enthusiasm to the team.

Coach Jay started coaching in 2000, and has worked with  Owensboro Country Club, Bowling Green Country Club, and Bowling Green High School. He continued his career with RACE as an assistant coach for a year before being promoted to head coach.  Jay is also the head coach of the Warren County Swim Team.

Coach Jay is Red Cross certified in lifeguarding, infant cpr, child cpr, adult cpr, and first aid.

Coach Jay’s biggest influence in swimming is Coach Bill Powell
